In Memoriam Ron Johnson
It is with great sadness that the Seattle Symphony mourns the passing of percussionist Ron Johnson on March 3rd, 2015. Ron's 48 year career with the SSO achieved a longevity that very few others have seen. His loyalty and dedication to the orchestra spanned over four decades, from the community orchestra era into the world class orchestra it is today.
On a more personal level, Ron and I were not only colleagues, but close friends as well. We shared not only our daily musical experiences, but also mutual hobbies including golf, pool, and competitive rifle shooting. Ron had an uncanny ability to find the things in life that he excelled in, and always worked to achieve an outstanding level of expertise both personally and professionally. The connection between career and hobbies was obvious to all who knew him. They all require an exceptional degree of muscle memory and concentration. I have no doubt that these qualities and attributes in Ron's character helped influence and shape my musical career and my personal life.
While the orchestra has lost a loyal colleague, I have also lost a life long friend.
